It's Finally Time For Change In The Coroner's Office.

Monroe County PA

For many decades, and continuing to the present day, the Monroe County Coroner's office has undergone very little change. Most things are still done the way they have been done for generations... One funeral home director runs in an election against another funeral home director, and hardly anyone even notices.  Now, there's nothing wrong with being a funeral home director, but is it enough anymore?

No. Times have changed, and the Coroner's office must change to meet today's challenges. The Coroner's office can and should do so much more. "Because we've always done it this way" is not a strategic plan.

We need someone who is not a part of the funeral industry, someone who has no possible conflict of interest. Someone who thinks in a new way.

Imagine if the Coroner's Office could help save lives.

Yes. Save Lives.

Ed believes the Coroner's office should proactively serve the entire community, and in fact is uniquely positioned to help make Monroe County a better place... starting with our children.

The Coroner's office should work to prevent needless deaths with a focus on teen suicides and opioid overdoses.

1. Ed will reach out to our county's educators, administrators, and counselors to speak to our students.

Ed is an engaging public speaker and, along with surviving parents, will talk with students about two of the most difficult and concerning topics of our time... teen suicides and opioid overdoses.

One teen suicide or opioid overdose is one too many.  Ed's challenge to the students will be "Put me out of a job!"

If we can stop the trajectory of even one life from desperation and hopelessness, turn one student from thoughts of suicide or drug addiction, identify and help that student where not even their best friends see their private pain... then that will be the ultimate goal Ed will bring to the Coroner's office.

2. Ed will ensure that all members of our community are treated fairly and equally, with respect and dedication, without regard for race, color, ethnicity, lifestyles, religion, or other sectors.

3. As a dedicated EMT, Ed appreciates the challenges our first responders face every day. Ed will work closely with the first responders -- police, ambulance, fire -- serving our county to ensure they are most effective and appreciated.

4. As a graduate engineer, Ed appreciates the value of technology. He will bring appropriate technology to the coroner's office.

From making sure that bereaved families receive all the needed documentation from the coroner's office in the shortest possible time; to ensuring maximum cooperation with, and service to, our DA's office and others in law enforcement; to ensuring fairness among funeral homes in our county; to optimizing scheduling.

5. As a business owner in a high-tech field, Ed is an effective manager of staff, often handling numerous projects simultaneously.

6. As an organ donor , Ed will encourage organ donation across all age groups.

7. Ed will reach out to our county religious community leaders to ensure that our families have spiritual support in their time of need.

8. Ed will use his experience in planning for mass casualties to help ensure that in the unfortunate event that a mass casualty occurs in Monroe County, we will be prepared.

These are bold goals.

Certainly nothing like our county Coroners have ever undertaken before. But the time for change is upon us. Ed is the right person at the right time.

This is why Ed is asking for your vote.

It's time for change in the Coroner's office. The citizens of Monroe County deserve better than they've received, especially those who need to make decisions about their loved ones in times of unthinkable stress and heartbreak. The Coroner's office should be proactive instead of reactive... helping our community in advance rather than only reacting once it's too late.

But doesn't the Coroner have to be a medical doctor?

No. In Pennsylvania, the County Coroner need not be a medical doctor.  In fact, in only 9 of Pennsylvania's 67 counties is the Coroner a medical doctor. In only 3 of those 9 counties is the Coroner a medical examiner.

Ed's message to help our kids appeals to all...

It is hard to imagine an office that is less political than the Coroner's office.  If you like Ed's ideas and his plan for change in the Coroner's office, please vote for him regardless of your political affiliation.
